Adieu Harmony Smurf!

Posted By Craighurst Crew on May 12, 2010

At the moment he arrived in our Guest House, we knew we had to say goodbye to Harmony Smurf one day. And that day was the first of May.

At our whisky garden event het met his long time fan, Hans Offringa, the Dutch whisky writer. And so Harmony Smurf decided to go with Hans on new adventures.

Harmony Smurf, the Craighurst Crew wishes you all the best in the future and we hope to see you again in Speyside, together with Hans and Becky!

The hen house: part two

Posted By Craighurst Crew on April 21, 2010

Last week we told you about the new arrival in the hen house. Today we can announce that there are now 5 little chicks running around in the hen house. Pepper and Charlie are really proud of their offspring, and so are we!

Many thanks to all who provided names for the 5 little ones. A big thank you to all P1 pupils of Keith Primary who provided a long list with great suggestions

And see here what the mother hens have decided:

  • Dodo
  • Superstar
  • Blackie
  • Pecky
  • Cutie

And last but not least, the chick-poll! the big question of course is: how many hens and how many cockerels will grow from the chicks. Let us know what you think and place your bet. The first right answer will be rewarded (one answer per person…). We will let you know the outcome as soon as. So watch this space!

A new arrival in the hen house

Posted By Craighurst Crew on April 16, 2010

For some weeks we had a cockerel staying in our hen house because we thought it would be nice for our hens to have some company. But you know what cockerels are really good at… indeed waking everybody up too early! Cockle-doodle-doo!!!

So we thought it was better to bring Mr. Maker back to his old home. After a farewell on Wednesday we were back to “normal” waking hours, and going back to our normal routine. Getting up, get breakfast, serve breakfast for the guests and of course open the hen house to let Charlie and Pepper out… And it was then we realised we had a new arrival!!!

So now the big question is, will it be a hen or a cockerel. Time will tell… And now we need some help from you as well. We haven’t got a name yet. We call it chickie for the moment but sure you can find a more original name ;-) !!

Tjilp Tjilp!!

Our vegetable patch

Posted By Craighurst Crew on April 7, 2010

For a long time we wanted to have a vegetable patch in our garden. But being always busy with the guest house we never got to it. But with the help of landshare, an initiative of Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall from River Cottage, it is finally taking shape.

Chris is now transforming  a piece of our garden into a decent kitchen garden. See the pictures for the first results. It already looks so great!!!
